The Washoe County MRC was created to temporarily increase patient capacity, or "surge capacity" at local hospitals and clinics during natural disasters and other emergencies. By providing trained volunteers to help staff alternate care sites and points of dispensing, the MRC provides a level of support that allows our region's patient care facilities to conserve the limited medical resources during disasters.
The on-line application process is easy; simply log on to www.mrcnevada.com and click on the Washoe County icon.
Although we're called the "Medical Reserve Corps," we're recruiting volunteers with computer skills, people skills, clinical and clerical skills.By becoming an MRC member you help to increase our community’s level of public health preparedness. In exchange for volunteering your time, you will receive free public health preparedness and emergency response training including First Aid, CPR, and Incident Command System (ICS) training. You will also receive required immunizations and annual flu shot, free of charge.
Recently, one of our volunteers, Dee Grimm, RN, joined the Haitian Relief Effort, providing her support to the medical efforts ongoing in the wake of Haiti's devasting earthquake in January. Please click on the link above to read about Dee's efforts.
Whether you are a licensed medical practitioner, someone with clinical training and experience, or someone with no medical background but the desire to help our community prepare for and respond to a public health emergency, the Washoe County MRC welcomes your participation.
