Immediately upon confirmation of membership in the Medical Reserve Corps, each volunteer should put together a Go Kit in a heavy duty travel bag. The bag should be placed where it is easily accessible, such as the top shelf of a closet, and tagged as the member’s Go Kit. Creation date and review dates should be listed on the tag. Items with expiration dates, such as food and medications should be rotated quarterly. Personal information should also be reviewed and updated quarterly.
The kit should contain the following:
- Copy of driver's license, health insurance card and vaccination record
- Emergency contact names and telephone numbers
- List of medical conditions and prescription medications
- Extra doses of medications
- Change of clothing
- Extra pair of comfortable, sturdy shoes
- Jacket or coat, and hat
- Extra glasses or contacts, and sunglasses
- Personal hygiene items
- Small towel and washcloth
- Water bottle, and several non perishable, ready-to-eat food items
You should also include a basic first aid kit:
- Adhesive bandages in a variety of sizes
- Adhesive tape and sterile gauze pads
- Antiseptic wipes and antibiotic ointment
- Antidiarrheal and antacid medications
- Pain reliever
- Scissors and tweezers
- Hand sanitizer
